To the Editor:
I read the Mahalo Hotel article with interest. Every time I walk past that shell of a former motel on the oceanfront, which has been sitting for four years, it makes me sick.
I live in North Wildwood, but once a week, I park my car at Lotus Road and walk up to Cresse Avenue with my dogs. I am delighted that the proposal for this beautiful hotel has finally been approved! The owners of the Compass Family Resort have held this up for four years. They wanted the Mahalo built to their specifications and would not be happy until they got what they wanted.
If they wanted an ocean view, go buy another hotel on the oceanfront. If everyone was so concerned about the aesthetics of the Mahalo blocking views or changing things they should have spoken up in the 80s and 90s. I recall it was then that all of those beautiful hotels were being torn down and high rises were being built, while many of those that remained were turned into condos. Wait, let me guess, those properties weren’t in front of their hotel or house.
The Pawloswki family, that owns the Compass, is concerned with parking because it will be too busy? They will try any argument they can think of to stop the Mahalo from being built. I hope they don’t appeal this decision. The Mahalo is going to be a beautiful hotel. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing it go up and finally opening. It will be welcomed!
