FREESE, HELEN We are saddened to announce the passing of Helen Hurman Freese on December 27, 2023, in Toney, Alabama. She was born on March 6, 1941, in New York to John and Catherine Hurman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patricia. She was a resident of Dennis Township (Clermont), NJ from 1976-1996. She was an active member of the South Seaville Methodist Church. Helen was a devoted wife of 63 years to David Freese, who she considered her best friend for 70 years. Together, they had three sons David, John, and Peter. She is survived by all of them as well as her sister Sonia. Helen was a prolific quilter and stitched more than 300 quilts which can be seen at http://www.w1hkj.com/personal-web/quilting. She founded three chapters of Prayers and Squares, quilters dedicated to creating and giving quilts to comfort those in bereavement or in need of prayer. Her two hospice nurses were among those she touched with her ministry one even asked Helen if she could be an adopted daughter! Helen's greatest joy was giving hand stitched quilts to new friends – many counted her as a second mother. The family has requested donations to be made to Gideons International in Helen's memory. Per the family, there will be no scheduled services at this time. Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family during their time of need.
