Fun events all month long at the refuge

The Two Mile Beach Unit, a hidden gem in Cape May County, has nature trails, a protected beach and a visitor & nature center with a lot to offer. Located at 12001 Pacific Ave, Wildwood Crest, the center has displays, nature-related items for sale and information. Open Sunday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed Tuesdays).

Here’s a list of fun events coming up:

  • Rain Barrel Demonstration/Workshop: For a $30 donation, you can take home a completed rain barrel which will provide conservation of water for lawns, plants and gardens at a demonstration led by Courtney Lacome, NJ Watershed Ambassador at 11 a.m. on June 7.
  • Children’s Nature Story Hour and Activity: June 28 through August 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Nature Walks: On June 14, 21 and 28 at 9 a.m., enjoy free, educational and easy hikes. Loaner binoculars are available. Please bring sunscreen and water.
  • Daily in the Nature Store: Children can enjoy the touch/craft table and/or participate in the quest for the Junior Ranger Management Badge.
  • Nature Art for Children: Thursday 6/26, 7/17, 8/14 These events, led by Ellen, are for preschool/school age children. Materials will be supplied. On June 26, July 17 and August 14.
  • 5K Run Fundraiser for the Friends of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge: On June 22, Behr Brewery will be hosting a 5K. Participants will have the opportunity to donate during the registration process as well as directly to the Friends of CMNWR Behr Brewery registration page: https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/CapeMayBehrBrewing5K. Come and enjoy a good time for a great cause.

Friends of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness of the Refuge, to foster understanding and appreciation of NWR System and to advocate for conservation and preservation of wildlife, plants and their habitats.
