FITZPATRICK, CURTIS
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Curtis Fitzpatrick, a beloved and respected figure in his community, who left this world on April 20, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on April 15, 1947, in the picturesque coastal town of Clearwater, Florida, Curtis's life journey took him to Cape May County, New Jersey, where he would lay down roots and become an integral part of the community's vibrant fabric. Throughout his life, Curtis made an indelible impact on those around him, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that epitomized hard work, unwavering devotion, and an abundance of love.
Curtis was not just a member of the New Jersey Laborers Union; he was a proud craftsman who dedicated countless years to perfecting his skills as a mason. His work transcended the realm of employment; it was a source of immense pride and personal fulfillment. Curtis contributed significantly to the construction and beautification of numerous structures across the region, with each brick and stone serving as a lasting testament to his dedication, expertise, and artistry. His commitment to his profession was unwavering and mirrored his deep-seated dedication to his community. His faith served as a guiding light in his life, shaping his interactions and fostering connections with others. In addition to his church involvement, he was an active member of the Masons, epitomizing his commitment to service, brotherhood, and the upliftment of those around him. Beyond his masonry work, Curtis spent over a decade in facilities management at Atlantic Cape Community College, where he earned a reputation for his reliability, strong work ethic, and the positive energy he brought into the workplace.
At the very heart of Curtis's existence was his family, a treasure he cherished above all else. He leaves behind a loving and indelible legacy through his children: Harold (Happy) Howell, his stepdaughter Tammy Bradley, his daughter Curstina Jennings, son Curtis Fitzpatrick, Jr., his daughter-in-law Marquita Collins-Fitzpatrick, along with daughter Jacqueline Jeffers and her husband Calvin O. Curtis and his late wife, Jacqueline, played an instrumental role in raising their granddaughter, Jada Loren Ford, who lived with them and attended Middle Township schools as if she were their own child. His family extended to encompass his brothers Ludie Johnson, Morris Fitzpatrick, Leonard Fitzpatrick, as well as his sisters LillyBelle Mabry, and Deborah Fitzpatrick. In addition, he held dear his sisters-in-law Collas Washington, Theresa Washington (his favorite) , Linette Wakefield, Annette Washington, Stepsister-in-law Ruth Ann Smith, along with brother-in-law Ellis Wakefield, Michelle Wakefield, Phillip Mitchell, wife Adelina Mitchell. Curtis leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will profoundly miss his guiding presence and warm spirit.
Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacqueline Ada Fitzpatrick, his daughter Kathy A. Watkins, and brother-in-law Ricky Tony. He also mourned the loss of his parents, James and Ruby Cooper Fitzpatrick, and siblings Arthur Fitzpatrick, Willie Fitzpatrick, and Fannie Hatcher. After Jacqueline's passing, Curtis found solace and companionship in the presence of Donna Mack, he also grew fond of her daughter, Dorothy Milard, and family adding yet another layer of love and connection to his already rich life.
In addition to being a talented mason, Curtis was a man of many interests and abilities, each of which brought him joy and enriched the lives of those around him. He found immense pleasure in golfing, gardening, singing with his children, storytelling, jokes, and fishing, with each pastime serving as a source of relaxation and fulfillment. His passion for detailing cars and boats was well-known, as he took exceptional care to ensure they sparkled just as brightly as his character. Through these beloved hobbies, Curtis forged lasting friendships and left a positive imprint on the lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and infectious laughter.
Anyone fortunate enough to know Curtis quickly learned of his special fondness for coffee from The Donut Connection. His favorite breakfast spot was the Court House Diner, where he frequented with his family weekly. He cherished the moments spent sharing coffee shot. Curtis spent his time every day with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories during every birthday, Thanksgiving, the first day of school, graduations, Christmas celebrations. Even if they didn't celebrate, he had gifts and cash to share, and he enjoyed family cookouts and messing up the grills. At every gathering, Curtis was the life of the party, the loud voice, the biggest laugh that echoed throughout, illuminating the room with sharp suits, gator shoes and his favorite cowboy boots (his favorite color was red) his infectious charm and vibrant spirit made him stand out from the rest. The family has countless videos and memorable photos of their time with Curtis capturing laughter and joy especially on vacations and get togethers will forever serve as treasured memories of a man who embraced life celebrating every moment to its fullest laughing.
