DENNIS TOWNSHIP – Firefighters from several companies teamed up to put out a fire that extensively damaged a residence in the Clermont section of the township. No injuries were reported.

On Thursday, June 26, at about 12:30 p.m., the Ocean View Fire Company was dispatched to Lake Vista Drive in Clermont for a structure fire. Dennis Fire Company and Avalon Fire Department were dispatched as automatic aid.

According to information posted on the Ocean View Facebook page, the initial caller reported flames coming from the roof of a neighbor’s home. Additional units were requested prior to arrival, bringing help from the Sea Isle City Fire Department and the Seaville Fire and Rescue Company.

Ocean View Fire Battalion 17 arrived and assumed incident command. Squad 17 arrived and began fire suppression with 2.5-inch and 1.75-inch hand lines. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews entered the home and continued firefighting efforts.

A short time later conditions worsened, and crews left the building. A water supply was established with Tanker 17-1, and additional arriving tankers shuttled water to support fire suppression efforts.

Crews remained on scene for several hours, until the remaining hot spots were extinguished. The fire remains under investigation.

Marmora Fire Company and Cape May Court House Fire Company provided coverage for Dennis Township for the duration of the incident. Other units that responded to the scene included AtlantiCare EMS, Sate Police, Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, N.J. State Fire Marshal’s Office, Dennis Township Fire Safety Bureau and the American Red Cross.

Approximately 14,000 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam were used.
