BELLEPLAIN — The first fire company in the United States was formed in 1736 by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia. Since then, the idea of firefighters rescuing animals from burning buildings — including getting cats out of trees — has been bolstered through all types of media, including kiddle picture books.
In a case of life imitating art, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the Dennisville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to the 500 block of Woodbine Avenue in Belleplain for a service assignment. Upon arriving, however, firefighters learned that a resident’s cat had climbed high into a tree and was unable to make its way down.
Ladder 18 responded to the location, and firefighters were able to safely retrieve and bring the fearful feline down from the tree.
