The Cape May Point Arts and Science Center is proud to announce Dr. Sean Burcher as its Director of Science. A South Jersey native with a distinguished background in physics and wildlife telemetry research, Dr. Burcher brings a wealth of expertise to the Center’s mission of advancing ecological research, education, and innovation.
Dr. Burcher spent summers working on the beaches of Cape May Point before earning his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Rutgers University and later completing his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics at the University of Tennessee in 2019. Following his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California before returning to Cape May Point in 2020.
In addition to his role at the Arts and Science Center, Dr. Burcher serves as a Senior R&D Scientist at Cellular Tracking Technologies (CTT), where he develops state-of-the-art wildlife telemetry devices used by researchers worldwide. His work has contributed to the tracking and study of monarch butterflies in North America, Adélie penguins in Antarctica, and elephant seals in the Pacific Ocean. He also conducts research to enhance data analysis methods, enabling scientists to gain deeper insight into animal movement and behavior.
The Cape May Point Arts and Science Center is honored to have Dr. Burcher leading its scientific initiatives, further strengthening its role as a hub for conservation, research, and community engagement.
