DOWNEY, JOHN J. John Joseph Downey, 84 of Wildwood Crest, passed on May 4, 2024 peacefully with his family by his side. John, or Jack as he's better known, was born in 1939 to Timothy and Marie Downey in Philadelphia, PA. He later attended and graduated from North East Catholic High School before becoming both a police officer and a firefighter in Philadelphia. After retirement, he moved permanently down the shore to the Wildwoods, where he'd been coming since he was a child. He was a lifeguard for many years and shifted into the Public Works Department of North Wildwood later in life. There he developed life-long friendships with many coworkers as well as the entire city. Jack was an incredibly simple, easy-going man and lived every day to the fullest. Any one that had to chance to meet him loved him instantly. He leaves behind a heartbroken family: his two daughters Lauren Downey and Rachel (Mike Hill) Downey, as well as his 8 grandkids, who he loved and cherished the most, Alyssa, Ryan, Bailey, Chase, Jackson, Walker, Michael III, and Race. They would describe him as the best Pop-Pop in the world. He also leaves behind his brother Robert (Rose) Downey and his nieces and nephews Robert, Kim, Jeff, Timothy and Matthew. Also, his best bud Thomas McCabe and family. He is predeceased by both of his parents as well as his two brothers Timothy and Joseph. The services for Jack will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted with Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, North Cape May. In lieu of flowers, his family is asking for donations to be made to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Oncology Department. "Gotcha Last"
