DAVIES, CHRISTOPHER L. Christopher Lane Davies, 63, formerly of Avalon, New Jersey died on October 14, 2023 in Lapu Lapu, a city in the Philippines in the province of Cebu, after a brief illness. Chris was born on May 31, 1960 in Camden, New Jersey, and moved with his family to Avalon at the age of three. Chris graduated from Middle Township High School in 1978 after spending his freshman through junior year at Wildwood Catholic High School. He graduated from West Chester University in 1982 with a degree in History. After graduation Chris taught high school history for several years, mostly in New Jersey, and worked in several other positions before going to China where he taught English at the high school and college level on and off for sixteen years between September 2001 and March 2023. Chris retired in Cebu, Philippines in April of 2023. Chris loved reminiscing about growing up in Avalon where he worked at landmarks such as Rio's, Donnelly's Deli and The Sandpiper – among other places. Chris's favorite job of all time was with the Avalon Beach Patrol lifeguarding for several summers in the mid-80s. He loved music – particularly classic rock – but 80s bands always brought him back to those most cherished memories in Avalon of summer nights spent at the Rock Room and the Princeton and days spent on the beach. Chris possessed a keen memory and a wonderful sense of humor! His recollection of details of those Avalon days and beyond will be missed. Chris remembered everything! He loved history and politics and stood at the ready to express his views on both subjects. That keen memory housed a lot of historical and political information and little-known facts that he loved to share. Chris was an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams – living the highs and lows with passion and enthusiasm. Chris had a huge heart and was a big softie. He cried unabashedly at commercials, TV shows and while listening to music. A self-proclaimed "crazy cat man" Chris rescued a tiny kitten he heard crying under a shrub on a traffic island in Zhanjiang. He and "Tat" became best friends and lived happily together for many years. Chris was fearless in many ways. He never hesitated to up and go. He would often laugh about how many different places he lived. To name a few… Camden, Avalon, Cape May Court House, Sea Isle City, Wildwood Crest, Mays Landing, Atlantic City, Brigantine, West Chester PA, Goose Creek SC, Key West FL, Dunwoody GA, Yuma AZ, Lincoln NE, St Croix, the Philippines, and about ten different Chinese cities. Chris had lots of stories! Chris was predeceased by his father, Arthur "Sonny" Davies in 1993. He is survived by his mother, Anne Davies of Garden Lake Park in Cape May Court House NJ; sisters – Anne Smith of Pelican Pointe in North Cape May NJ and Judy Davies-Dunhour (Doug) of Stone Harbor NJ; brothers – Art (Jane) of Avalon NJ, Ted (Rebekkah) of Chicago IL, Pat (Jan) of Washington DC and Shepherdstown WV and JP of San Diego, CA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for Chris will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, 1:00-3:00pm at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. At 2:30pm family and friends are welcome to share a memory, a story or a thought with those in attendance. Dress casual. It's definitely what Chris would have preferred. RIP, brother. Those we love live forever in our hearts. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
