CUNNINGHAM, CATHRYN E. Cathryn Ellen Cunningham Maloney, 71, of Lancaster, PA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Neffsville Nursing Home from an accelerated form of cancer and chemo side effects. A Pennsylvania native, Cate was born to John Cunningham and Jane Ann Pearson in Philadelphia and attended schools in Ardmore growing up. She spent her teen years on the beaches in southern New Jersey but returned to PA to attend F&M College's first class to include women in the school. Cate graduated from F&M College with a bachelor's degree in geology. Throughout her life, Cate held many jobs including science teacher, guide at North Museum, newspaper editor, and census worker. However, her proudest job was founding the Historic Blue Star bar and music venue on King Street in the 90s which established her as a key member of the music community in Lancaster. Cate had a deep passion for exploring her family's history through ancestry and genealogy research. She also enjoyed traveling, crossing the US multiple times in her RV with her beloved dogs, and writing about her journeys. She was also a creative soul, enjoying painting and making music. Her caring and spiritual nature led her to help anyone in need, leaving a lasting impact on those she met. Cate is survived by her son, Sean; her two grand-children; her three younger siblings; and her dog, Charlie. She can now peacefully join her deceased son, Forrest, and her deceased husbands, William (Liam) Joseph Maloney III and Zola McElwee in heaven. We celebrate the life of Cathryn, a dedicated mother, a loving grand-mother, and a kind-hearted individual who will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
