WILDWOOD – A Wildwood Crest woman has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run accident at West Hand and Hudson avenues in Wildwood on New Year’s Eve.

Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy and Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the arrest of Marylin Glenn, 76, of the 100 block of West Jefferson Avenue, in connection with the accident, which occurred at around 7:45 p.m.

Glenn was charged on Thursday, Jan. 2, with second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and second-degree violation of a public law intended to protect public safety.

According to a press release by the Prosecutor’s Office, the charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Wildwood Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Office into an accident in which a pedestrian, identified only as C.C., age 66, was struck. The victim was walking south on Hudson Avenue and going through the crosswalk when hit.

BreakingAC.com, which obtained the affidavit of probable cause related to the accident, said a surveillance camera recorded a yellow Chevrolet Trax heading east on Hand Avenue striking the pedestrian. The investigation revealed that Glenn fled the scene but contacted law enforcement shortly afterward.

Glenn reportedly drove home and at some point called police and said she had been involved in an accident. Police went to her home and found the Trax with damage consistent with striking a pedestrian, the affidavit said. Hair samples were taken from the vehicle, and it was towed to police headquarters.

Glenn appeared before Superior Court Judge Marian Ragusa, who released her on the condition she not drive after 4:30 p.m. The judge also ordered her not have contact with the victim’s family. The prosecutor handling the case did not seek her detention.

She was initially lodged at the Cape May County Justice Facility following her arrest but has since been released on pretrial monitoring pending further court proceedings.

Sutherland said individuals charged with a second-degree crime are subject, upon conviction, to a prison term of five to 10 years.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Wildwood Police Department at 609-522-0222 or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
