WOODBINE – Mayor William Pikolycky welcomed home Diante “Peanut” Laracuente, son of Marisol Laracuente and Chipper McNear April 16. Laracuente returned home for a few days after serving in Afghanistan for the past nine months. That mayoral handshake represented the borough’s sentiment for the Army soldier.
Laracuente is stationed with the 10th Mountain Division, Second Brigade.
He enlisted after graduating from Millville High School in 2013. He is taking college courses with plans of applying to the New Jersey State Police when his enlistment ends in about six months.
He was honored at the Hornstein-Switka-Oxley American Legion Post 298, 515 Washington Ave., here at 7 p.m.
The day held special meaning for Laracuente since it also marked his 21st birthday.
Prior to arriving at the post, he was accorded a surprise motorcycle escort into the borough by the Warrior Watch Riders, as well as a contingent from the New Jersey State Police from Woodbine station.
“I thank Diante for his service to our country and add my prayers that he will be back home for good soon,” stated Pikolycky in a release.
