WOODBINE – Woodbine resident Nicholas Schalek received his Eagle Scout rank (an honor that only 4% of Boy Scouts attain) at his Eagle Court of Honor held Nov. 14, at St. Augustine Preparatory School, Richland, NJ.
In order to do so Nicholas earned twenty-seven merit badges and has served his Scout Troop in a number of leadership roles.
He developed, planned, and gave leadership to an Eagle Scout project to benefit the Borough of Woodbine and for this project refurbished the Borough’s World War I monument located by Woodbine’s historic Fire House and former Borough Hall.
Nicholas then re-dedicated the monument back to the community in a ceremony Sept. 7, 2014.
He had attended New Jersey Boys State, being sponsored by American Legion Post 298 of Woodbine and also helped to clear debris due to major storm damage at local Scout Camp Pine Hill Scout Reservation, Pine Hill.
Nicholas is an active Crew member at St. Augustine’s and has been a long-time Cape May County 4-H member, winning both Natural Science and Community awards as well as the Round Robin 2015.
Nicholas’s father Fred is also an Eagle Scout; his younger brother Colby is working towards becoming one.
“I congratulate Nicholas on this major achievement and again thank him for rededicating our World War I monument as his Eagle project, thus showing his ongoing commitment to the community in which he has always lived. Joining me in representing the Borough in celebrating Nicholas’s Court of Honor was Council President Eduardo Ortiz.”
