THE WILDWOODS — The Grand Opening of the Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market took place on June 28 and was called a huge success, by both the shoppers and vendors. By 8 a.m., the farmers’ tables were loaded with fresh local produce such as corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, kale, Swiss chard, lettuce, green beans, fresh cutflowers and more.
The Windy Acres booth at the front of the market created a beautiful entrance decorated with hanging baskets, flower pots, living wreaths, strawberry, herbs and other assorted plants. Shoppers began arriving early and were happy to find free parking behind the market between Schellenger and Oak Avenues. First stop was the Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID) booth where they were given a free DOO WW magnet and tote bag that they enthusiastically loaded with their Framers Market finds.
Shoppers were able to sample and buy wine at the Balic Winery booth that was located across from the Cannulli’s Nuts booth, and S&S Kitchens could not keep up with the demand for their gluten free baked goods and promised to double their stock for next week’s event. Fresh fish was brought to the market by Rick’s Seafood, and the Crab Cake Hotline was selling their ready to cook crab cakes and more. Duffinetti’s was sampling and selling their famous Sauce, and the Whirley Pig’s pork sandwiches and cold cucumber soup were a gourmet treat. Busy Bees NJ Honey had a variety of sizes to sell, and the teas assortment in the Serenitea booth was amazing. Sales of smoked sausages and cheeses at the Gaiss’ Market booth were brisk, and shoppers loved the organic coffee and smoothies being served by Harry & Bean. Ryan’s Hot Dogs, the stilt walker and balloon artist were big hits with the kids! By 1 p.m., the vendors’ inventories were depleted and they made plans to increase their inventories for next week.
The Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market takes place every Sat. through Aug. from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., on the corner of Pacific and Schellenger Avenues in downtown Wildwood. Walk, ride your bike or drive your car and park for free – you won’t be disappointed. There is something for everyone.
The Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID) and the City of Wildwood are sponsoring the Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market with the support from the Greater Wildwood Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA).
