By Press Release

WILDWOOD CREST – The Borough of Wildwood Crest has always strived to keep its beaches clean. To continue those efforts, the borough is seeking the public’s help.
In order to help rid the beach street ends and improve the environment around the beach, Wildwood Crest is establishing an “Adopt-A-Beach” anti-litter program. Non-profit organizations or volunteer groups can adopt one of the borough’s 42 beach street ends at the entrance to the beach, from the bike path to the high tide water line, for the purpose of litter abatement.
Those registered would be required to conduct litter pickup a minimum of four times per year, with two cleanups occurring between January and April and two cleanups occurring between September and December each year. The Wildwood Crest Department of Public Works will arrange for the recycling and/or disposal of all collected litter. The Wildwood Crest Department of Public Works will provide sufficient supplies for use by groups that register for the Adopt-A-Beach program. Supplies include but are not limited to gloves, trash bags and safety supplies. Those registered for the Adopt-A-Beach program will be required to take part in a safety orientation session to review safety issues and proper equipment usage.
Organizations/groups must have a minimum of four volunteers per cleanup. At least one adult per five children under the age of 17 is required. Groups should be no larger than 20 people for safety purposes. Each group must have a designated leader who will ensure that all group members use safety equipment, receive safety instructions and follow appropriate recycling techniques and applicable safety procedures.
The Wildwood Crest Department of Public Works will arrange for the recycling and/or disposal of all collected litter between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Registered groups in the Adopt-A-Beach program will receive recognition of their efforts through signage placed at the street end entrance of their adopted beach.
To register for the Wildwood Crest Adopt-A-Beach program or for further information, contact the Wildwood Crest Department of Public Works at (609) 522-7446.
