Wildwood Crest Rec Center posts new schedule

Wildwood Crest Recreation Department will host a wide variety of activities in 2010.
Crest Pier will be the site for dances for boys and girls in grades five to eight on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 23 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission fee is $5 for each dance.
Pool pizza parties for boys and girls in grades four to eight will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Joseph Von Savage Memorial Pool at 8800 New Jersey Avenue. The event includes pizza, beverages, music and pool activities. Fee is $5 for each pool party.
A Creative Dramatics program will begin a new 10-week session on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Classes are held each Wednesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
This fun-filled class on the fundamentals of acting includes lessons on improvisation, pantomime, creative movement and theater games. Instructor is Laura Farrall. Fee is $30 per child for 10 weeks, $20 for each addition child.
Crest Pier Recreation Center is now open Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. for open recreation for children ages 14 and under and their families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday mornings, the Center is available for adult pick-up basketball for players ages 30 and older.
Yoga Classes are held three days per week, directed by Bobi Watson. Classes are held Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Cost is $5 per class or $50 for 12 sessions. All ages are welcome.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive five minutes prior to start time and to bring their own mats.
Fit Seniors Exercise Classes is set to introduce its new Fit Seniors program, an exercise class specifically designed for the senior citizen. The class will focus on safe and effective endurance, flexibility, balance and strength training to improve overall function.
Classes will be held each Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Crest Pier. Fee is $5 per class or 12 classes for $50.
Instructor is Laura Farrall, who holds a Masters degree in exercise science and is a NASM certified personal trainer.
The Wildwood Crest Wrestling Club, a youth program for boys and girls in grades one to eight, is still accepting registration and participation for the current season.
The program is open to beginning, intermediate and advanced youth wrestlers from Cape May County. Participants will be matched with those of similar age, weight and skill levels.
Practice and training sessions are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wildwood Crest Pier Recreation Center. The program will conclude in late February.
Cost is $55 for the season, or $5 per practice. Fee for two or more wrestlers from the same family is $100. Tournament fees are not included. A copy of the wrestler’s birth certificate, insurance information, medical history and physician’s contact information are needed at time of registration.
The Borough of Wildwood Crest encourages its residents not to throw away their junk mail, personal records, old receipts or other normally discarded documents, as the borough has purchased a commercial shredding machine at no expense to taxpayers.
The shredding machine is located at the Crest Pier Recreation Center and is available for use by residents from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
