By Press Release

WILDWOOD CREST – In recognition of Arbor Day, the Borough of Wildwood Crest partnered with The Lomax Consulting Group to present tree seedlings and an educational program to children in grades K-5 at Crest Memorial School April 28.
The Arbor Day activities opened with a screening of a video compilation highlighting the importance of trees and the value of natural resource stewardship.
Following a brief presentation about the history of Arbor Day and the need for schoolchildren to help “green” their community by Peter Lomax, president of The Lomax Consulting Group, Wildwood Crest Commissioner and Deputy Mayor Joyce Gould read a story to the children about different types of trees and how they grow.
Following the program, 400 tree seedlings were distributed to the schoolchildren for them to take home and plant.
The Arbor Day event, organized by Wildwood Crest Commissioner Don Cabrera and Business Administrator Connie Mahon, was part of the borough’s ongoing efforts to educate the public about the importance of trees and conserving natural resources. The Borough of Wildwood Crest is engaged in a community forestry initiative in which a plan will be developed to manage and steward its tree resources, as well as to develop further public outreach that encourages tree care and planting of proper tree species for the sensitive barrier island environment.
