WILDWOOD CREST – The Wildwood Crest Green Team will hold a meeting July 24, at 2 p.m. in Wildwood Crest Borough Hall, 6101 Pacific Ave. to address tree planting on residential property.
According to a release, Why more trees? Over the last decade or two, curbside trees have decreased in numbers as trees have died and not been replaced.
The team is hoping to reverse the trend. Trees can beautify a neighborhood.
Real estate agents tell us that a street with trees adds value to a property.
Trees gather water through their roots and reduce water runoff during rainstorms. In the process of respiration, they release oxygen into the air.
Thirty percent of the oxygen that humans breathe comes from land trees and plants. They sequester carbon from air helping to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in air.
They supply a place for birds to establish a home. They supply shade for walkers and can reduce heating costs in the winter blocking the wind and cooling costs in the summer by blocking the sun.
On July 24, Lisa Simms of N.J. Tree Foundation will make a presentation to the Crest Green Team on the “Right Tree, Right Place.”
What tree does best in the local sandy, salty environment? When is the best time to plant? How does one plant, what soil, minerals, are needed? How much water is needed?
All of these questions will be addressed.
The public is invited.
