WILDWOOD – With the summer season now officially closed, this past one will be remembered as one for the history books on the Wildwood beach.
“The summer of 2017 was a banner year for our beach,” said Commissioner Pete Byron. “This year’s new amenities were a huge hit and made Wildwood’s beach even more spectacular.”
The addition of a designated surf beach at Andrews Avenue and moving the city’s nationally-ranked dog beach to a larger area with more things for pups and their people to enjoy were instrumental in making summer 2017 one of the most successful beach seasons ever.
“In addition to the new beach amenities this year, amenities added over the past several years continued to be extremely successful,” noted Byron. “More beach goers than ever used the beach boxes.”
By offering beach amenities not only does Wildwood’s expansive beach become more user-friendly for beach goers, but local taxpayers reap the benefit of increased revenue to the city’s coffers.
Plans are already underway for the 2018 summer season. Additional amenities planned include a parking tunnel allowing access to Wildwood’s wide beach for parking on the sand. Also in the queue are improvements to the dog beach that will bring even more bow wows from four-legged visitors.
“Our goal,” said Byron, “is to make Wildwood’s beach the number one beach vacation destination in the nation. By doing that we hope to increase revenue to help offset the burden placed on local taxpayers.”
