Mice Beware! It’s Jinglebell the Cat! The Tucker Puppeteers will visit the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. to perform a holiday story about Jinglebell, the cat, and some nice mice she’d like to have for dinner. The free show is for ages 6-10.
The nice mice, Maynard, Max, Missie and Margaret are planning a holiday party. But Jingle Bell has plans for a party of her own with the main dish being “micemeat pie.” In this adaptation of an Aesop’s Fable the clever mice must outwit the cat and also learn about the spirit of holiday sharing.
The show will be held in the Library’s Lecture Room N110. Enter on the 17th Street side of the Library.
The Ocean City Free Public Library invites you to its Holiday Festival on Sunday,
Dec.12 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be 50’s style music and holiday selections by The White Walls. Features will include face painting, refreshments and more. Santa will visit with gifts for all the little girls and boys…so don’t miss the fun!
The Library will host Jill Furst, Phd. of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology on Sat., Dec.11 at 2 p.m. Furst’s talk is titled “From St. Nicholas to Santa Claus: the Travels and Transformation of America’s Favorite Icon.”
It seems St. Nicholas began as a kindly Italian cleric who anonymously tossed bags of gold into the homes of poor girls for use as dowries. Santa Claus, on the other hand, took a detour through the far north where he acquired reindeer and fur trimmed clothing. The presentation traces how he morphed into today’s Jolly Old Elf and explores the role of anthropologists in creating our favorite holiday icon.
The presentation is illustrated with engravings and lithographs from the 18th and 19th Centuries. Not suitable for young children. Lecture will be held in Room N110. Enter on 17th St. of the Library.
Admission is free to all events. www.oceancitylibrary.org.
