Weekend Emergency Blocks New Jersey Avenue

By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD – At approximately 9:30 Fri. evening, March 2, North Wildwood Department of Public Works was alerted to a sinkhole on New Jersey Avenue between 14th and 15th Avenues.
Superintendent Harry Wozunk assembled a crew at the site where they discovered that the old terra cotta sewer main had failed. To complicate matters, it was raining, and that exacerbated the situation.
Wozunk and the City engineer Ralph Petrella examined the street and decided the best course of action was to replace 250 feet of sewer main immediately.
Perna-Finnigan, Inc., the City’s emergency repair contractor, was commissioned to do the work. Early Sat. morning crews came in and replaced 140 feet of sewer main to stabilize the situation.
Mon. and Tues. of this week, March 5 and, Perna-Finnigan will continue the operation, completely restoring the roadway in the area.
