Vote for Gandy to Derail Middle Tax Train

By Sponsored

For voters in New Jersey, elected officials willing to really fight for the taxpayers have been few and far between. At every level of government, property taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, burdensome fees and stifling regulations have combined to make our state the highest taxed in America. Worse yet, Democrat Governor Phil Murphy is pushing for another $1.5 billion in new taxes on the working families of New Jersey.
Here in Middle Township, Governor Murphy’s tax and tax-some-more agenda has been embraced by Mayor Mike Clark and Deputy Mayor Jeff Devico. After five years of no increase in the Township’s tax levy, Clark and Devico didn’t hesitate to climb aboard the Trenton Tax Train, raising property taxes close to 8% in the last two years.
“Sadly, it is no surprise to see taxes rising again in Middle Township,” said Republican candidate for Middle Township Committee Ike Gandy. “In the decade before Tim Donohue and Dan Lockwood put the brakes on runaway spending, our municipal tax burden rose close to 12% per year. Our levy doubled in just seven years. Well-connected contractors and professionals got rich, while Middle Township’s employees’ wages stagnated and we, the taxpayers, dug deeper and deeper into our pockets.”
Gandy believes it is past time to get Middle Township off the Trenton Tax Train. He pledged to work with Committeeman Tim Donohue to restore sound fiscal policies, make the hard decisions and institute the innovative initiatives required to put taxpayers first.
“We should be showing the courage to push back against the bloated bureaucracy in Trenton, not making it worse by raising taxes here at home. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor shouldn’t be patting themselves on the back for “only” raising taxes 2.5% in 2018, after a nearly 6% increase in 2017,” explained Gandy. “We must be willing to lead by example at home, while demanding real property tax reform, working to change the way we fund our schools, and pushing for lower fees and less regulations on our small businesses.”
Gandy said that proposals for a new Town Hall and police building, as well as large projects to reshape downtown Court House and proposed tax breaks for large developers, could cost the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. He called for careful study of these proposals, with an eye toward minimizing their impact on Township taxpayers.
“In New Jersey, now more than ever we need elected officials to fight for our taxpayers, not entrenched politicians who are happy to tax and spend. Our residents have a choice and many are voting with their feet, leaving New Jersey and its high taxes behind. Our goal in Middle Township should be a well-run town with a stable tax rate. These conditions will attract and retain quality businesses and allow us to provide great services at the lowest possible cost.”
A vote for Ike Gandy is a vote to make Tim Donohue our Mayor again. Gandy and Donohue pledge to work for a zero tax increase in 2019 and to be your voice in the fight for fiscal sanity in Trenton.
“In seven years on Township Committee, I’ve never voted for higher taxes,” Donohue said. “I have a proven record of controlling spending through smart and innovative leadership. But I can’t stop taxes from rising on my own. I need Ike Gandy to join in me in the fight to ensure our taxpayers have a real voice in Town Hall.”
