County Library Hosts Hummingbird Lecture
The Cape May County Library invites the public to the lecture, “Hummingbirds 101” with Pat Sutton at 6 p.m. on Aug. 5. The lecture will take place at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
It is the peak of the ruby-throated hummingbird migration through Cape May County. Hummingbirds have been here since mid-April, raised one or several families, and are now heading south to their winter homes. Learn about these unique and tiny birds, including how to attract them to your yard next spring. After the hour lecture, the group will visit Sutton’s nearby wildlife garden as countless hummingbirds feast on the plentiful insects and blooming flowers while preparing for their journey south. Please dress appropriately for the garden walk.

County Library Hosts Sushi Demonstration
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Cape Cuisine: Rolls Sushi” with Chef Mark Kalla at 1 p.m. on Aug. 5. The demonstration will take place at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Chef Kalla will demonstrate the aspect of preparing and rolling sushi. Learn to make vegetable rolls, California rolls and tempura rolls. Participants will be invited to sample the foods that have been prepared.

County Library Offers Beginner Computer Class
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “My First Computer Class” taught by the Technology Learning Center at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5. The class will take place at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. In this course for beginners, you will learn basic computer terms and get comfortable with the layout of the keyboard. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice mouse skills and get one-on-one help from the instructors.

County Library Offers Mosaic Workshop
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend the workshop, “Mosaic by Michele: Create a Mosaic Wall Mirror.” This two-day workshop with Michele Pasciullo will be held on Aug. 6 and 13 at 10 a.m. at the Sea Isle City Library, 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City. Use colorful bits of stained glass and marbles to decorate a wall mirror. Learn the ancient art of mosaic while creating a functional piece of art. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a lovely addition to their home decor or a unique handmade gift for someone special.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend the lecture, “Natural Cape May” given by Mike Crewe at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. The lecture will take place at the Cape May City Library, 110 Ocean Street, Cape May City.
Look at the natural world in Cape May County and find out what is happening in the world beyond. Birds, mammals, flowers, insects and much more, all come under the spotlight as we look at what to expect now and in the coming month.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend the workshop, “Beaded Wire Wrapped Bracelet” with Betty Tocci. This workshop will be held on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
If you are interested in basic jewelry, beading techniques and creative thinking, then this class is for you! Create a beautiful piece of jewelry to wear everyday or on special occasions. At the end of this workshop, participants will have a completed beaded wire wrapped bracelet. If you have trouble seeing, please bring reading glasses.

County Library Hosts Movie Night
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend a viewing of 42. The movie will be shown at 6 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Sea Isle City Library, 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City.
Jackie Robinson’s story is told in this biopic from writer/director Brian Helgeland. Robinson paved a new road for minorities by being the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball since the racial barrier was put in place in the late 1800s.

County Library Offers Second Level Computer Class

County Library Hosts Poetry Reading
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Beach Bards Present: Poetry and Prose” on Aug. 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The reading will take place at the Sea Isle City Library, 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City.
The Beach Bards Poetry Reading Series will present a poetry program on the third Monday of each month from June through October. This month Penny Harter and Therese Halscheid will be reading from their original works and will sign copies of their books after the reading.
Penny Harter is published widely in journals and anthologies, and her literary autobiography appears as an extended essay in Contemporary Authors. Her twenty-two books and chapbooks include One Bowl (a prizewinning e-book of haibun, Snapshot Press, 2012); Recycling Starlight (2010); The Beastie Book, an illustrated alphabestiary (2009); and The Night Marsh (2008). Therése Halscheid’s latest poetry collection Uncommon Geography, won a finalist award for the Paterson Poetry Book Prize. Her writings have appeared in such magazines as Tampa Review, Hotel Amerika, Connecticut Review, Natural Bridge, Dos Passos. She teaches for Atlantic Cape Community College and is a visiting writer in schools; new work explores Alaska, where she taught poetry to an Inupiaq tribe in the far north.

You have learned the basics of using a computer and how it works; now it’s time to take it to the next level. In this class, you will learn a few concepts on how to use your computer like a pro. This class will also include how to do basic computer tasks, from finding your way around the computer to going online. This will be in a Windows based setting.

County Library Hosts Lecture on Beach Plums
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend the lecture, “Beach Plums: Rubies of the Dunes” given by Joe Alvarez. The lecture will take place at 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the Lower Cape Library, 2600 Bayshore Road, Villas.
Come and learn the history, the wonder and the latest up-to-date research on the Beach Plum, the “Official Fruit of Cape May County.” The local population of South Jersey has regarded the beach plum as part of local tradition and a cottage industry for almost two centuries. Along with current research through Rutgers State University of New Jersey, Cornell University and the United States Department of Agriculture/Natural Resource Conservation Service Plant Material Center, Cape May County, the beach plum has been used for everything from edible fruit to sustainable agriculture in addition to maintaining dune restoration and preservation.
Weather permitting; there will be a guided tour of the Higbee Beach WMA natural beach plum stands following the lecture.

County Library Hosts Performance about Dinosaurs
The Cape May County Library invites children of all ages and their families to the program, “Dinoman Dinosaurs!” at 10 a.m. on Aug. 21 at the Sea Isle City Library, 4800 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City.
Dinosaur tracks lead right to the library. With magic, merry mayhem and magnificent props, the audience will be taken on a trip throughout the Mesozoic era. How do we know dinosaurs were here? County Library Hosts Back Bay Boat Cruise
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join the “Back Bay Boat Cruise: A Sunset Tour on the Osprey” with Dave Lord at 5 p.m. on Aug. 21. This family cruise will begin at the Lower Cape Library, 2600 Bayshore Road, Villas.
Gain access to some of Southern New Jersey’s wild places aboard the M.V. Osprey. Lord will give a short multimedia presentation at the Lower Township Library about the fauna of the great salt marsh preceding the voyage. You will then cruise the short distance to board the Osprey in Cape May and take a two-hour tour of the back bays. While cruising through secure waterways aboard a stable pontoon boat, wonderful opportunities abound to see the wildlife of a late August summer evening. Bob Lubberman, a seasoned professional Captain who has over twenty years experience in driving vessels, captains the Osprey. Ages six and up are welcome to join this exciting cruise.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to come to a “Tailgating Party Cooking Demonstration” with Chef James Harris at 1 p.m. on Aug. 22. The demonstration will take place at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Join us for an exciting demonstration on how to cook a delicious feast just in time for football season! Chef Harris has created some wonderful recipes to share with you. County Library Holds Book Sale
The Cape May County Library will be holding a three-day book sale beginning Aug. 26 and ending Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The book sale will take place at the Main Library, 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
The library book sale is a great opportunity to increase one’s own personal library or find a gift for a friend. On the first day of the book sale, hardcover and soft cover books will be 25 cents, magazines and small paperbacks will be 10 cents, cassettes and videos will be 50 cents and DVDs and CDs are $1. On the second day of book sale, all items will be half price. On the third and final day of the book sale, shoppers can fill a bag for $1.

The Cape May County Library is holding a course on, “The Fundamentals of Drawing” with Nancy Palermo. This six-week course starts on Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Upper Cape Library, 2050 Route 631, Petersburg.
Develop your own style of drawing while learning the basics of structure, shading and perspective. Various media will be explored so you can see the world around you in a new way.
Please bring a drawing pad, 11” x 14” or larger, a set of drawing pencils, soft eraser (kneaded) and a small pencil sharpener.
