County Library Hosts Seasonal Arts Class
The public is invited to attend “Autumn Decorative Arts: Painting Gourds” presented by Betty Tocci at the County Library in November. This two-day workshop will be held on Thurs., Nov. 3 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program will take place at the Main Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Contemporary decorative painting is a highly teachable art form. Participants will be painting an exciting Fall Gourd Project. The pattern will include a pumpkin, apple, gourd and fall leaves.
Tocci helped form “Shore Pines Society of Decorative Artists” and has been President the group multiple times. She has taught at chapter meetings and local seminars for the last 11 years and has studied with many leading decorative artists.

County Library Hosts Lecture on Native Plants for Wildlife
The public is invited to attend a lecture titled “Native Plants for Wildlife: Vines & Grasses” presented by naturalist Pat Sutton at the Cape May County Library. The lecture will be held on Mon., Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Naturalist Pat Sutton will showcase native vines and grasses and the birds, butterflies, moths and other creatures that are dependent upon or will benefit from them.
Pat Sutton has keenly studied the natural world for 30 years. She and her husband, Clay, wrote the landmark book, Birds and Birding at Cape May, the in-depth result of their efforts over many years documenting and protecting the migration and the Cape May area that they so love. Sutton’s wildlife garden is a teaching garden included on many tours and featured in programs and workshops she teaches.

County Library Hosts Lecture on Birds in Your Backyard
The public is invited to attend a lecture at the Cape May County Library titled “How to Get More Birds at Your Feeder.” The lecture, presented by Don Freiday, will take place at 7 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 16 at the Main Library located at 30 Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Learn the basics and beyond with Cape May naturalist Don Freiday who will discuss basic bird food types, feeder positioning, providing cover and a bit on identifying your visitors.
Freiday is a graduate of Rutgers University and is currently the regional coordinator for the New Jersey Breeding Bird Atlas. Freiday is also the co-author of two books: “A Precious Place, a Naturalist Explores New Jersey” and “Wild Journeys: Migration in New Jersey.

County Library Hosts Garden Lecture on Seasonal Gardening
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Strategy of the Garden” presented by Joe Alvarez on Mon., Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. The program will take place at the Main Library located at 30 Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Nov. is the month to clean-up the garden and prepare for the late fall and winter months. Furthermore, fall is an excellent time to plan, design or change your garden for next year. Information and guidelines for a complete garden change or even a needed rejuvenation of the garden will be the topic. ‘Tips for the Month’ are always a component of this series on gardening.

County Library Offers Decorations Workshop at Cape May City Branch
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Seasonal Felted Decorations” workshop with Paige Cunningham in November. The program will be held on Sat., Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cape May City Branch Library located at 110 Ocean Street in Cape May.
Participants will explore the mystery of wet felting. No sewing, no gluing, no chemicals, just soap and water. If you’ve never felted before, this class will show you how the process works, step-by-step and at the end you will have some fall decorations for your home!
As a resident of West Cape May, Paige Cunningham has been creating and selling jewelry at local shops and festivals for six years. Cunningham currently works for The Center for Community Arts, West Cape May Elementary School, The Nature Center of Cape May and Cape Winds Florist.

County Library Hosts Interior Design Lecture at Lower Cape Branch
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Interior Design: Furniture Arrangement” lecture presented by Valerie Driscoll. The program will be held on Sat., Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Lower Cape Library located at 2600 Bayshore Road in the Villas.
Learn the design “tricks of the trade” for the perfect furniture layout in any room without all of the heavy lifting. Both computer and pencil and paper methods for space planning will be discussed with hands-on work using the basic principles covered in the class.
Interior Designer, Valerie Driscoll owner of Three Grace Interiors, believes that anyone can have a beautifully decorated home no matter what the budget. Driscoll’s decorative painting and interior design work can be seen on and off the islands, as well as Philadelphia, Northern New Jersey and New York.
