United Way Advocates for the Expansion of Preschool in New Jersey

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Pre-K Our Way has announced that the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) has joined advocacy efforts to encourage effective, high-quality preschool programs in our communities.
“United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey is signing on as an Advocate level supporter; as such we will be making a public commitment to Pre-K Our Way and will encourage community partners in Southern New Jersey to also support Pre-K Our Way,” said UWGPSNJ’s President and CEO John Cawley and Vice President and Regional Director John Emge.
“As you may be aware UWGPSNJ has an early education agenda that is focused on ensuring children enter kindergarten ready to learn. Additionally, creating public will in support of access to affordable high quality pre-k is a high-level public policy and impact agenda item,” Cawley and Emge said.
“Pre-K Our Way is excited to have the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey join us as an advocate for expanding high-quality pre-k in New Jersey,” said Sam Crane of Pre-K Our Way. “The United Way’s mission of improving people’s lives through mobilizing communities falls directly in line with Pre-K Our Way’s goal of engaging stakeholders and communities to spread the word about the importance of pre-k and the need to offer the program to more three- and four-year-old children in communities throughout New Jersey.”
Existing state law calls for the expansion of New Jersey’s proven, high-quality preschool programs from fewer than 40 towns to 90 more communities across New Jersey. Pre-K Our Way is a nonpartisan, nonprofit effort to bring New Jersey’s effective, high-quality preschool program to each of our communities. Pre-K Our Way wants to expand the quality preschool model for three- to four-year-olds that New Jersey already has by fully implementing the law.
UWGPSNJ provides services to communities in Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May and Cumberland Counties in South Jersey.
