CAPE MAY – Tim Bobb, of Cape May, is the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Volunteer of the Month for November 2012. MAC Director Michael Zuckerman nominated Bobb for helping to organize the first annual Craft Beer & Crab Festival, held Aug. 11 on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May.
Bobb worked alongside event organizer Graydon Hutchinson handling many of the details and arrangements for this new, all-day event, a benefit that raised nearly $19,000 for MAC’s numerous educational outreach programs. “Tim not only helped in the planning process but helped manage the day, kept things running smoothly and provided support wherever he was needed,” said Zuckerman.
Thousands of people enjoyed the day’s festivities, which included steamed crabs, craft beers, local and regional artisans, all-day live musical entertainment, the Give-and-Take Jugglers, and more. Next year’s Craft Beer & Crab Festival is Aug. 10, 2013. Bobb has volunteered for MAC since coming to Cape May in 1998, helping with fund-raiser galas and as a docent for MAC’s Christmas Candlelight House Tours. The adage, “If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it,” certainly applies to Bobb. In addition to his position as assistant innkeeper at The Fairthorne Inn of Cape May, he is general manager of the 50-room Holiday House on Hughes Street operated by the Girls’ Friendly Society, an international non-profit organization affiliated with the Episcopal Church dedicated to supporting and nurturing young girls, which hosts retreats from May through October.
MAC benefits from the expertise of members of the community in a variety of ways. The Volunteer of the Month award is given to a person who demonstrates a high degree of dedication, commitment and constancy to MAC’s volunteer program.
