The Maverick 4-H Art Club members get the opportunity to experience many different forms of art including acrylic, pottery, watercolor, pastel and more! Throughout the year, we learn a variety of art techniques and then put them to use in the projects we produce.
The Maverick 4-H Art Club meets monthly on the third Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maverick Art Studio in Cape May Court House. We gather between meetings for community service opportunities, fundraising and to practice what we’ve learned.
Community service activities include making Easter decorations for Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, arts and crafts at the Senior Care Center, and a bike path clean up.
We constructed Easter eggs using mixed media and displayed them in the lobby at Crest Haven for the residents and visitors to enjoy. The Easter eggs were constructed on cardstock paper of various pastel colors. Then the club members decorated and personalized them using ribbon, beads, beans and glue.
On Feb. 20, we went to the Senior Care Center in Cape May Court House with construction paper, scissors and glue. We helped the residents make beautiful flowers using the materials we brought. Everyone had a great time!
On April 1, we met at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County to clean up the bike path. The Cape May County Public Works Department gave us the bags, gloves and pick up tools to use. We spent a few hours on a very brisk day cleaning up the community!
The club leaders are Carol Anne Futrell and Georgina Lonton. The club members are Brianna Knights, Mis McGarrity, Autumn Richards, Amelia Worthington, Edward Chase Hoover, Emma Gotwols, Abigail Fredericks, Garrett Olson, Alex Zyalenack, Aiden Dunwoodie, Dylan DiLossi and Victoria Atwood.
