WOODBINE – The Good Timers Band honored Woodbine Dec. 7 by presenting what is being billed as their final-concert-anywhere at the Woodbine Community Center. This concert celebrated both the Holiday Season as well as commemorating Pearl Harbor Day and included both seasonal and patriotic songs, and was sponsored Woodbine Recreation Commission and Cape May County RSVP.
The band has been playing together for 22 years, giving free concerts at nursing homes, VFWs, Community/Senior Centers and other such venues throughout the County, and were honored by the Cape May County RSVP Advisory Council with a certificate of appreciation/honor/recognition, noting that this was likely the last concert that band would be giving.
Band members are: World War II Navy veteran Tony Costanzo (lead singer and sax); World War II Navy Veteran John Gruber (also sax); US Army Veteran Terry Sweeney (drums); and Regina Krefski (keyboard).
The band played to a packed room, with over 40 community members and a dozen children from the neighboring Head Start program (supplemented by several (great)grands of Community Center regulars). All enjoyed the program and refreshments provided by Woodbine AARP Chapter #5292.
A special shout out to AARP members Larry Jones, Dee Ciabatoni, and Christine Hawkins for spending the evening before the concert decorating the Center for the event.
“I join Joan Rowland of the Cape May County RSVP program, who has been instrumental in bringing The Good Timers to Woodbine for an annual Holiday Concert, in hoping that this will NOT be their final-concert-ever and hope our community will have the chance to experience their skill and enthusiasm again in years to come ,” noted Mayor Pikolycky.
