WILDWOOD – The beach behind Raging Waters Waterpark on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing Pier was packed with people of all ages eager to catch their first wave.
“We’re thankful to the local surf shops for providing boards and instructors, allowing us to provide this free opportunity for so many people to learn to surf,” said Will Morey, President and CEO of Morey’s Piers. “We’re also grateful to the City of Wildwood for their ongoing support in our beach sports program and to the Wildwood Beach Patrol for keeping our beaches safe.”
At the Wildwoods Surf Fest on Saturday, July 30th, over 300 people from ages 5-50 learned to surf for free with volunteer instructors from Ocean Outfitters, Wild Ocean and Woody’s surf shops. The award winning Wildwood beach provided a spectacular venue for the event.
“There’s nothing like watching someone catch their first wave,” said Chris Wood of Woody’s Surf Shop. “We loved being in the water teaching all day.”
“Surf Fest is a celebration of Wildwood’s deeply rooted surf culture, as well as an opportunity for families and children to ride their first wave,” said Ernie Troiano, Jr., Mayor of the City of Wildwood. “We’d like to thank our Wildwood lifeguards for ensuring a safe environment for this new event in Wildwood.”
The festival also featured a beer garden on the beach, live music by the Dan Brown Duo and The Following, surf vendors, a classic surfer BBQ dinner and luau, as well as exclusive after hours admission to Raging Waters Waterpark.
