By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — Friends and supporters of over 800 registered Boy Scouts and Scouters in Cape May County have set their annual fund raising event for Oct. 28, 2013 to honor all active participants.
Families, businesses leaders, community and supportive organizations, and all others interested are invited and welcome to contribute to Scouting.
Two leading Scout supporters have been selected as 2013 Distinguished Citizens to be honored at the Oct. 28 Reception at Avalon Links in Middle Township.
Gerald L. Reeves, President, CEO and Director of Sturdy Savings Bank and Scott Halliday, President and Co-Founder of Halliday-Leonard, Inc. have been selected as the 2013 Distinguished Citizens of the Year for the Cape May County section of BaySea District of the Garden State Council, Boy Scouts of America.
As annual Fall recruiting begins for youth throughout Cape May County to participate in Scouting, there are 28 active units with 552 members, 252 adult leaders, and many supportive businesses, sponsors, volunteers and individual donors to help provide resources for activities, advancements, and training opportunities.
The 2013 Distinguished Citizen Reception on Oct. 28 will begin with a reception from 6:00 p.m. and with dinner and a short program beginning at 7:00 p.m. Several levels of sponsorship are available to anyone interested in supporting Boy Scouts of America programs in Cape May County. Tribute ads are available in the program book and tickets to the event can be purchased at www.gardenstatescouting.org or by calling 856-327-1700, extension 132.
Each year, the “Good Scout” Statue is presented to community leaders who exemplify the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Law and Oath. Gerald Reeves and Scott Halliday have been selected as this year’s honorees for outstanding service to the community as evidenced by the interest and leadership they have provided to many worthwhile organizations and the respect and esteem in which they are regarded by their colleagues, friends, and neighbors.
The 2013 Distinguished Citizen Reception is co-chaired by scouting supporters James R. Blake, Treasurer & CFO of the Morey Organization and Vicki Clark, President of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce.
Since 2006, honorees have included Senator Jeff Van Drew; Daniel Beyel, Former Freeholder Director of Cape May County; Thomas Tower of Action Supply; Will and Jack Morey of the Morey Organization; Charles Pessagno of Marsh McLennan Agency; Bill Kindle of Kindle Auto Plaza; Leonard Desiderio, Cape May County Freeholder and Mayor of Sea Isle City; Doug Heun from Friedman, LLP and Veronica Town with Atlantic City Electric.
