STONE HARBOR – The Stone Harbor Museum has re-opened for the season. The museum volunteers have updated the archival notebooks and displays winter and are anxious to welcome visitors to come see the new artifacts. Summer hours are – Mon-Fri 10am to 3pm, Sun. 1-4pm and Wed. evening 7-9pm. Admission is free. Features include archives, artifacts and DVD presentations relating to the history and growth of Stone Harbor since its early development in 1905. A featured display this new season will be the Stone Harbor Fire Department which celebrates its centennial next year. Volunteers are needed and welcome to serve in updating displays and archives as well as the essential work as docents to welcome the Public.
The Nautical Museum Annex is located in the rear portion of the property. This Nautical Annex had its grand opening in the summer of 2010. The outdoor display area features sail boats built in the boat yards of Stone Harbor and raced in the back bay. These include the Cheetah Cat #16, The Comet#7, a training boat and a sunfish – all restored and freshly painted by volunteers. These boats offer photo opportunities and will be displayed safely stabilized for children to sit in for photos – bring your camera! The indoor display features photos and DVD presentations pertaining to early boats, boat building, and sailing history in Stone Harbor. Volunteers are needed and welcome to help with displays and to act as docents when open to the public.
