STONE HARBOR — The Borough of Stone Harbor Go Green Community “Green Fair” is scheduled for Sept. 12 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 94th Street & Second Avenue.
This event is free to all residents and visitors and will be held in conjunction with our annual Paper Shredding event. Stone Harbor properties owners, visitors and the general public are encouraged to attend and obtain information on many sustainable initiatives that will be offered.
The Borough of Stone Harbor Department of Public Works will provide information on recycling and Tuci the Tucan, the mascot from the Cape May County MUA, will be there to help! Blue Moose Landscaping, Steve Rendzak, Irrigation Specialist can provide visitors with the best practices for landscape design and watering, South Jersey Gas providing information on clean energy, The Wetlands Institute will have indigenous, native plants on hand, the Surfrider Foundation will offer the importance of beach cleanup initiatives and plastic bag education, Tom Hutchinson will be on hand offering information on geothermal heating and air conditioning and the Energy Star Program, Burke Motors will be showcasing a Cadillac ELR Hybrid Vehicle and South Jersey Fair Trade Alliance will be on hand to raise awareness of fair trade practices.
In addition, Good Boy Biscuits & Bones will offer Gourmet Natural Dog Bones & Treats and Blue Eden will present all natural organic soaps, scrubs & lotions for purchase.
Our local natural and organic supermarket, The Green Street Market, offers an expansive selection of Non GMO, locally grown, and fair trade products. Signature products will be available for purchase.
Just Breath Yoga lead by Christina Newdeck will offer a free 20 minute yoga demonstration at Noon and stretches throughout the event to promote the benefits of healing and slowing down.
The Cape May County Library will introduce visitors to the ability and ease of e-books and e-magazines available through the Cape May County Library website.
Our own Go Green Committee will be providing educational information focusing on Water Conservation. The Borough of Stone Harbor has recently been awarded the Bronze Certification through Sustainable Jersey. The Green Fair will continue the efforts the Go Green Committee works so hard to achieve by educating the community on sustainability.
The Stone Harbor Elementary school children will help with our efforts making this an educational experience for both adults and the children attending. Stone Harbor Museum will offer snacks for sale and the Stone Harbor Police Department will continue its efforts to help fight childhood cancer by offering Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
The Go Green Committee encourages all to clean out your closets and donate gently used winter coats/warm clothing to local shelters or community organizations. We will have a collection box on hand that day if you wish to donate. If you keep a neat non-cluttered home, you are being GREEN because you will be able to save time and energy, your environment is cleaner, and you just feel so much better! All donations received will be distributed to local charitable organizations.
