This year, the Star Hollow Riders Club has expanded and participated in many great events under the leadership of Abby Sykes. Our club President Coryn Dykhouse and Vice President Jessica Raymond were great role models for our younger members.
The Star Hollow Riders Club has had a wonderful year! We have a few new members and our focus has been on learning more about our project animals. We started off the year learning how to check a horse’s vital signs. Our members also met and discussed horse viruses and how easily germs can be spread. Star Hollow Riders participated in many aspects of 4-H. Many qualified for the state 4-H horse show last August, some attended Winter Camp and South Jersey Teen Conference, and we all learned more about showing our horses in local and more advanced shows.
Our club was lucky enough to win a $350 grant from the 4-H Foundation and this allowed a group of Star Hollow Riders to attend the Devon Horse Show in May. All of our kids did great at 4-H public presentations, and five were invited to compete at the state level.
The Star Hollow Riders Club is also open to having “horseless” members who still get to participate in activities and learn more about caring for and managing a project animal. These members may not ride, or have a horse of their own, but they are able to participate in meetings and work with some of the horses at Star Hollow Stables.
The Star Hollow Riders Club is eager and excited to participate in the 2016 4-H Fair. Many of our members are also part of the Moonlight Riders Drill Team. Come say “Hi” to us and our ponies at the fairgrounds in July!
