COURT HOUSE — On Aug. 11, 2013 197 golfers participated in the charity golf tournament at Sand Barrens Golf Club. All 27 holes were utilized in the afternoon fun event. That evening, 245 people attended the dinner and auction conducted by Don Tollefson, renowned Philadelphia sports caster and journalist. More than 70 volunteers from St Brendan the Navigator Parish in Avalon/Stone Harbor and Family Promise worked to make this event successful.
Family Promise, the beneficiary of this year’s event, is a local non-profit whose mission is “To share hospitality with homeless families and to help those families achieve self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment by providing shelter, food, clothing, case management, educational programs and supportive services…ultimately assisting the parents to find permanent housing and build a stable future for their children and themselves.” Laurie Johnson said “we are very honored and grateful to be the beneficiary of St Brendan the Navigator’s Compassionate Outreach Ministry this year. This donation will help us refurbish our newly obtained day care property in Lower Township to better serve the needs of local homeless families. God meant for this to happen.”
Bob Baxter said “thank you again to all the Cape May County business donors, sponsors, volunteer workers and golfers whose contributions and hard work made this year’s event so successful to be able to make this generous donation to help Family Promise achieve their mission. We believe that it is unacceptable for even one child to be without a home in Cape May County or anywhere in our country.”
