COURT HOUSE — Do you strain to hear when someone is speaking? Do you often ask family and friends to repeat themselves? Do you have difficulty hearing on the telephone? If so, you are not alone, approximately 48 million, about 20% of American Adults have reported some degree of hearing loss.
The Hearing Loss Association – South Jersey Shore Chapter brings together the people of the community who are hard of hearing. Members share stories and tips about their own hearing loss. Regardless of whether or not people wear hearing devices, they benefit from sharing and learning from each other. They also provide information on assistive listening devices, such as, captioned telephones and web captioning and also advocate for public communication accessibility for the hard of hearing. The group meets each month on the third Thurs. in the Maruchi Room at the Cape Regional Medical Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for coffee and conversation. Scheduled presentations are held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. with question and answer forum afterwards. New members and visitors are welcome. Join us to say Hello and meet others like you. Refreshments will be provided.
Do you have used hearing aids that you would like to donate? The group is accepting used hearing aids as a drop off point to send them in to be refurbished and distributed to NJ residents in need. The venture is supported by NJ Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Sertoma, and Montclair University. Feel free to stop by and drop off used hearing aids for donation.
The next meet-up is July 17. The group will host Vicki Joy Sullivan, Program Coordinator from Career Success Solutions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals based in Burlington County College. Vicki Joy will demonstrate new technology available to assist communication access in a daily setting. Come on out and learn more about what is available to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. All are welcome.
