COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Zoo was the place to cool off on Sat., Aug. 13 at the first “Snow Day” event for Snow Leopard conservation awareness. This special event was held in conjunction with The Woodland Park Zoo in Washington State who has been celebrating this Snow Leopard activity for the past four years.
“We were proud to work in conjunction with the Woodland Park Zoo to stretch Snow Leopard Conservation from the west coast to the east coast,” said Director Dan Beyel.
This fun filled day to raise awareness for Snow Leopard conservation included: face painting, educational displays, education talks, games and interactive kid’s activities. The Cape May County AAZK group and the Cape County Zoological Society had promotional items for patrons as well as products for sale to benefit the International Snow Leopard Trust.
The hit of the day was the four tons of crushed snow, donated by Lunds Fisheries, which assisted in creating a winter scene. Many kids and some adults beat the heat by climbing up the snowy hill, complete with wintry backdrop. Many of the zoo animals enjoyed the chilly refreshing snow as well. The snow was given out to many animals as an enrichment program. All of our snow leopards and our Siberian Tiger received piles of snow to enjoy and even the Camels and Goats were seen chewing on the cool treat.
If you couldn’t join us for “Snow Day”, come see our newest Snow Leopard Cub and the more than 500 animals that call the Cape May County Zoo home. The Zoo, located at 707 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, is open daily from 10 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.
