CAPE MAY – “Sharing Positive Energy,” presented by the Sustainable Jersey Atlantic-Cape May Green Teams Hub will be held May 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cape May Convention Hall.
This special event is a follow-up to the NJ Mayor’s Climate Summit and a similar Hub event held in Hammonton Feb. 21. Based on strong interest and positive feedback from the February “Sharing Positive Energy” event, the Sustainable Jersey Atlantic-Cape May Green Teams Regional Hub is pleased to be able to offer local municipal officials, business, faith based and community leaders, and residents the chance to learn what communities can do to manage energy use and cut costs.
Participants will learn why smart energy management is important in the broader context of meeting the challenges presented by climate change. This event will introduce participants to available resources and steps communities, businesses and individuals can take towards energy reduction.
Event organizers recognize that reducing energy use is not a topic that normally generates a lot of excitement.
“A lot of people associate reducing energy use with actions like turning back the thermostat, or things that involve some small inconvenience or discomfort,” Atlantic-Cape May Hub co-chair Amy Menzel explains. “This event will help dispel this image by introducing people to some of the incredible programs that are out there to offer assistance for local towns and businesses,” Menzel adds.
“Sharing Positive Energy” packs information and local success stories into an engaging two-hour program. Participants will hear about an array of options, activities and initiatives communities can implement, including solar, energy efficiency, EVs, NJ Clean Energy programs, renewable energy aggregation and other energy related actions. Sustainable Jersey Energy Program Manager, Nancy Quirk will provide an overview of best practices outlined in the new Sustainable Jersey Gold Standard certification and go into detail on commercial and residential energy efficiency initiatives.
“We’re really pleased to be able to offer this great program closer to home for Cape May County participants,” Atlantic-Cape May Hub co-chair Ralph Cooper noted. “Attendees will have a chance to learn from local businesses and municipalities who have taken advantage of programs that save money and energy.” Resource providers will also have information about related programs and initiatives that benefit businesses, residents and towns.
“Sharing Positive Energy,” like all events hosted though the Sustainable Jersey Atlantic-Cape May Hub, really is an opportunity for Green Teams and interested community members to connect and network.
The Sustainable Jersey Atlantic-Cape May Hub offers regular trainings, mentoring, and networking opportunities to connect members of local green teams in the two counties to share ideas and to support each other.
“Sharing Positive Energy” is free and open to the public. An RSVP is requested. The program, held May 7 at the Cape May Convention Center, begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Register here: bit.ly/ACMEnergy2
