AVALON — The Avalon Historical Society announced the winners of the Seventh Annual W. Norman Mackey Memorial Clamshell Pitch, held July 23 on Avalon’s 30th Street beach. The games were enjoyed by approximately 30 contestants.
Singles: first place Rob Broadwater, second place Jim Waters
Doubles: first place Patricia Yochim & Dan Matassino, second place Brian Moll & Matt Freeborn
Mr. Norman Mackey taught the sport to his son Allan in the early 1940’s. The Historical Society is eager to bring the revival of the clamshell pitch with participants 16 years and older enjoying a great classic game on the beach.
