SEA ISLE CITY — On Jan. 22, Sea Isle City’s Wellness Committee hosted their first-ever Employee Health Fair for municipal employees, retirees and their families inside the municipal gymnasium on Park Road, where over 30 “vendors” offered an abundance of useful information, free health screenings, give-aways, and many options for improving personal wellness.
After speaking with doctors, nurses, dentists, chiropractors and medical technicians, some employees had their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and BMI levels checked. Numerous employees also stepped into a mobile mammography van for their annual mammogram, while others enjoyed free chair massages and learned how to avoid cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Those in attendance also had the chance to learn about Alzheimer’s disease as well as physical rehabilitation options, should they ever need them.
At the Sea Isle City Municipal Alliance Committee display, everyone was reminded that a secure medicine cabinet can prevent prescription drug abuse; and, at the New Jersey State Police table, troopers collected unwanted prescription medications and shared info about proper helmet usage, car seat safety, and identity theft.
In addition to focusing on their physical health, City employees also spoke with representatives from several financial institutions, including banks, investment firms and insurance agencies, who suggested ways to improve their financial future. There were also representatives from support and advocacy organizations at the Health Fair; plus staffers from the Cape May County Library System shared info about adult activities and other programs that are designed to enlighten and enrich the mind.
To keep energy levels high, the Wellness Committee served a complementary luncheon to each of the employees, which consisted of delicious, heart-healthy dishes. At the end of the Health Fair, a gift basket filled with great prizes – including a Fit Bit – was given to one lucky winner during a random employee drawing.
“The entire Wellness Committee worked diligently to make the Health Fair a success and we are very happy that so many employees attended,” said Committee Chairperson Kellie Seib, of Sea Isle’s Human Resources Department. We received a lot of positive feedback from our employees and from the businesses and organizations that shared information on Jan. 22. We definitely plan to host future health fairs as we continue to promote the wellness of our city employees.”
