SEA ISLE CITY, – On Sept. 15, the Sea Isle City VFW Post 1963 sponsored a luncheon for more than two dozen disabled veterans from the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. The gathering, which was hosted by the Lobster Loft Restaurant, served as a “thank you” to the vets and also allowed them to enjoy a day by the sea.
After an enjoyable meal, the veterans made a stop at James’ Candy Shop, where they received special discounts on their purchases. Afterwards, they spent time on Sea Isle’s oceanfront Promenade, where they took in the fresh salt air and views. Some even enjoyed a dip in the ocean.
According to VFW Post 1963 Commander Charles “Chick” Haines, volunteers from his organization – including President Marie Gardner and the other members of the Ladies Auxiliary – are proud to treat these veterans to a luncheon twice each year. However, in the past the meals have been prepared by VFW members and served inside Post 1963 on JFK Boulevard. This is the first time the luncheon was held in a local restaurant.
“This is just one of the many things we do for our nation’s veterans,” said Commander Haines. “It’s very important to remember our vets – especially those who have been injured or who live in veterans homes. The members of VFW Post 1963 are very happy that we can honor our veterans in this way, and we look forward to sponsoring more events like this in the future. I am thankful for Jimmy Bennett of The Lobster Loft and all of our members who made the luncheon a success.”
