Sea Isle City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Was an Irish Success Story

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – March 17, Sea Isle City’s 22nd Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade featured bag pipes, floats, elected officials, scout troops, fire engines and a bevy of Irish residents wearing their finest green attire. Hosted by Mayor Leonard Desiderio and his family, the yearly event was also attended by countless revelers, many of whom were donned in Irish sweaters, large Shamrock hats, giant green sunglasses and other festive accessories as they lined Landis Avenue.
The parade’s Grand Marshall was Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization President Christopher Glancey. Also featured were the members of Sea Isle’s 2012 Irish Royal Family: Irish-American Man of the Year Warren “Renny” Steele, Captain of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol; Irish-American Woman of the Year Barbara Light-Steele; Irish Queen Grace McDermott, a resident of Sea Isle City who was born in County Gavin, Ireland; Prince Charlie Dunner; and Princess Rebecca Bretzke. Also appearing were the parade perennial co-chairpersons, Michael “Ace” Morrissey and Carol Thompson.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were the members of the Atlantic City Sandpipers Pipe Band and many others who fully appreciate the joys of being Irish!
After the parade, an “Irish Celebration” was held at KIX-McNutley’s Night Club, where participants and spectators alike enjoyed live Irish music, an Irish buffet and plenty of socializing. Meanwhile, outside of KIX, representatives from Sea Isle’s Beach Tag Office were selling 2012 commemorative Saint Patrick’s Day beach tags, which will serve as seasonal beach passes for the coming summer season. According to City officials, all 500 of the tags sold out on March 17.
