SEA ISLE CITY — Individuals, families, civic organizations, scout troops and other eco-minded volunteers are encouraged to show their support for Mother Nature during Sea Isle City’s 2014 Autumn Beach Clean-Up and Dune Grass event Sept. 27, 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon (rain date: Sept. 28). During this annual event, which is hosted by the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission, volunteers will gather debris from the beaches and dunes and plant dune grass to strengthen the shoreline.
Students who donate their time during the Beach Clean-Up can earn community service credits.
While cleaning the beaches and dunes, volunteers will document what type of debris is collected. That data will be sent to Clean Ocean Action, of Highlands, NJ, where it will be compiled with similar information from other shore communities in order to identify possible pollution issues.
After the Beach Clean-Up, all volunteers will be invited to attend a complementary buffet luncheon at Mike’s Seafood Market and Dockside Restaurant in historic Fish Alley, provided courtesy of owner Mike Monichetti and his family.
No pre-registration is required to participate in the Beach Clean-Up. Participants can register on the morning of the event at JFK Boulevard and the Promenade, where Environmental Commission members will distribute supplies and tickets for the luncheon at Mike’s Seafood.
