SEA ISLE CITY – On Oct. 15, the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission hosted their 2011 Autumn Beach Clean-Up and Dune Grass Planting event, which resulted in clean shores and strengthened dunes all along the barrier island. Nearly 100 volunteers participated in the yearly gathering, including individuals, families and members of several local organizations.
In addition to cleaning the shores and planting new dune grass, volunteers also collected data, which pin-pointed exactly what type of debris was collected. That data was sent to Clean Ocean Action in Highlands, NJ, an organization that battles ocean pollution and helps protect New Jersey’s waterways.
After Sea Isle’s beaches were clean and the dunes were strengthened with new plants, the event’s volunteers were treated to complimentary buffet luncheon at Mike’s Seafood Restaurant in Sea Isle City’s historic Fish Alley.
According to Sea Isle City Environmental Commission Chairperson Annette Lombardo, the members of the Environmental Commission are very grateful to the all of the event’s volunteers – and to the Monichetti family, owners of Mike’s Seafood.
“We would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this year’s beach clean-up a success,” said Lombardo. “It was a very windy day, but everyone endured. We are also very thankful to Mike Monichetti and his family for the wonderful seafood buffet. Everyone fully enjoyed the food and the fine hospitality that was shown to us during the luncheon.”
