Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Alumni Association Welcomes Four New Members to their Hall of Fame

On August 15

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Each summer, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) Alumni Association inducts new members into their Alumni Hall of Fame. Since 2001, 37 inductees have been added to the Hall of Fame – including four new members in 2015.
During this year’s Alumni Association Dinner, which took place on August 15 at The Lobster Loft Restaurant in Sea Isle’s historic Fish Alley, 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees Colin Corcoran, Brendan Lake, Wayne MacMurray and Brian Wilson were honored. Each inductee received a plaque from Alumni Association President John McCann, as well as proclamation from Mayor Leonard Desiderio, which was delivered by City Council President Jack Gibson, who is also an SICBP Alumni Hall of Fame member.
Each of this year’s inductees was considered a dedicated and devoted lifeguard while protecting the beaches of Sea Isle City, as well as strong a contender in lifeguard races against other beach patrols.
Corcoran was a four-time City Doubles Rowing Champion and a successful oarsman in numerous lifeguard competitions, including the Dutch Hoffmann Championship. He was also a semi-finalist at the Henley Royal Regatta in England while a student at Yale University.
Lake, who currently serves as the Alumni Association’s Public Relations Chairman, was a lifeguard in the 1980s and ‘90s. Acknowledged for his skills as a singles rower, he won numerous first, second and third place titles over the years.
MacMurray, a competitive rower for over forty years, won numerous titles during the 1970’s, ‘80s and ‘90s. During the August 15, dinner he was declared “an excellent lifeguard and a true water-watcher” who taught many other lifeguards how to properly watch the water.
Wilson was a member of the SICBP for sixteen years – eight of which he served as lieutenant. He was a rowing and surf bash champion and a second place winner in the 2002 Tri-Resorts Iron Man Relay. Wilson was “a great guard who was loved by everyone on his beach because of how well he did his job,” said the mayor’s proclamation.
Also attending the Alumni Association Dinner was Marci Schankweiler, CEO of For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, an organization she co-founded with her late husband, Peter Bossow, a well-liked member of the SICBP. Schankweiler attended the dinner to thank the SICBP and the alumni for their ongoing support and also acknowledge the important roll the beach patrol plays in the community – including how they help create memories for her foundation’s guests, who come to Sea Isle City each year to “take a break from cancer.” Schankweiler also distributed keepsake seashells to those in attendance as a reminder of her gratitude.
“We are very proud to honor our 2015 Hall of Fame inductees,” said McCann. “It’s a tribute to their commitment to excellence while they served on the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. We are also proud that the same commitment continues to this day.”
