‘Women of Wonder’ Raised Nearly $4,000 for Atlantic Cape Students

WILDWOOD – Cape May County’s “Women of Wonder” helped raise nearly $4,000 for Atlantic Cape Community College tuition assistance for Cape Educational COMPACT students at the Oct. 26 event.
The event featured a superhero theme and guests were encouraged to dress in costume.
Guest speakers included: Dr. Patricia Gentile, dean of Atlantic Cape’s CMCC and WOW creator; Sue Sheppard, Cape May County Freeholder; Barbara Mokoski, superintendent of Cape May County Special Services School District; Tracey Staab, principal of Cape Educational COMPACT alternative high school; Myra Belasco, 2011 Women of Wonder award recipient; Diane T. McKoy, CPA, Atlantic Cape Foundation president; and Cape Educational COMPACT graduates: Amanda Parris, Roxanne LaPlant and Urijah Suarez.
“Cape Educational COMPACT is supporting their students at Atlantic Cape by underwriting fees and books for their students but can’t afford even Atlantic Cape’s very low tuition rate,” said Dr. Gentile at the event. “The cutbacks in public funding have impacted both our schools and I know this is when individuals – superhero individuals like you and me – have to step in and do what we can.”
New donations will increase the number of students who can participate in the tuition assistance program beginning in the spring 2012 semester at Atlantic Cape.

“Create Opportunity: The Capital & Scholarship Campaign for Atlantic Cape Community College,” is the college’s first major gifts campaign. The campaign has two initiatives: increase college-based financial assistance by enhancing the scholarship endowment and secure funding to purchase furnishings and scientific equipment for the new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics facility to be built on the Mays Landing Campus.
