COURT HOUSE – Cape May County’s “Women of Wonder” League joined forces to raise nearly $5,000 for Atlantic Cape Community College tuition assistance for Cape Educational COMPACT students during the second annual event Oct. 24.
The league met at a “super-secret” location in the Wildwoods, which featured a pre-Halloween superhero-themed reception, where guests were encouraged to wear costumes.
Guest speakers included: Dr. Patricia Gentile, dean of Atlantic Cape’s continuing education, resource development and Cape May County Campus operations and WOW co-creator; Sue Sheppard, Cape May County Freeholder Vice-Director; Tracey Staab, principal of Cape Educational COMPACT; Rita Marie Fulginiti, Cape May County clerk; Martina Singleton, 2012 Women of Wonder award recipient; Diane T. McKoy, CPA, Atlantic Cape Foundation president; and Cape Educational COMPACT graduates: Roxanne LaPlant and Jessica Waugh.
“I’ve been so inspired by the students I’ve met, their stories of courage and the daunting challenges they face. I’d like to ensure they can find the superhero inside to realize their dreams of a college education,” Gentile said.
Potential Cape May County “Women of Wonder” league members who are interested in contributing to the Scholarship Fund to support COMPACT students attending classes at Atlantic Cape can donate online at www.atlantic.edu/wow. They can also contact Gentile at 609-463-4507 or pgentile@atlantic.edu.
The “WOW” event was created in 2011 by Gentile, and Maria Kellett, director of major gifts, to focus attention on the ongoing education needs of at-risk students in Cape Educational COMPACT, the county’s alternative high school.
