COURT HOUSE — It was a first for Middle Township High School, the Cheeseburger in Middle’s Paradise Island Art, Music and Food Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Various school clubs hosted booths to raise money for their endeavors, the National Honor Society held a car wash, for example.
According to Dr. Theresa DeFranco, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and district wide initiatives, whose idea it was to hold the event, well over $10,000 in goods were donated by various community businesses to make the event a success to help scholarships and other activities.
The band Tidal Wave provided island music for the event. First District Legislators, Sen. Jeff Van Drew, and Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matthew Milam (all D-1st) strolled through the crowd, and visited many of the booths.
For young children there was face painting, princess and pirate decoration, moon walks and sports activities with soccer, basketball, and football toss games.
Tickets entitled holders to a cheeseburger, pizza, or hot dog, potato chips, beverage and cookie.
Another widely-popular attraction was the pseudo-sumo wrestling, which allowed the brave-hearted to don a padded sumo wrestler’s suit and joust with an opponent.
See Wednesday’s Herald print edition for more photos of this event.
