CREST HAVEN — There are 29 new licensed practical nurses in Cape May County who graduated June 16 from the Cape May County Technical School District.
The graduation ceremony from the 11-month-long course of study included the traditional pinning and candlelight ceremony and concluded with recitation of the Nightingale Pledge by all nurses in the room.
Joining the graduates, in addition to families and friends, were Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-1st), Assemblyman Matthew Milam (D-1st), Superintendent Robert Matthies, Rusty Miller, director, Laura Elston, supervisor of education, and Robert Boyd, member of the district Board of Education.
Class representative Thomas McCarty welcomed the throng to the commencement.
Consuela Gant sang the National Anthem.
Guest speaker was Registered Nurse Bonnie Riddle, Lower Cape May Regional School District nurse.
Class speaker Eunice Vasser, noted her joy at representing the class, but a tough of sadness that her sons could not join her, as they were home in Kenya.
Instructors Bonnie Bowen, Ruth Hallowell and Julia A. McLaughlin, program coordinator, took part in pinning on lapel pins, and wishing the new graduates success in the future.
Some embraced those instructors, wiping away tears, while other smiled broadly at completing their rigorous course of study.
