Amy Casterline’s Kindergarten Class celebrated Thanksgiving by having a special feast of their own! Students snacked on goldfish, corn bread, juice bags and cookies, just to name a few Thanksgiving delights. “They did it the kindergarten way” notes Jason, one of Mrs. Casterline’s students. In addition to snacking, the kids wore handmade “Indian” hats and “Pilgrim” hats. Parents were also treated to a few songs about the holiday as well.
West Cape May
Throughout the year, 6th Grade Peer Leaders of West Cape May Elementary School organize drives to assist those who are less fortunate. In October, the children collected money for UNICEF.
During the month of November, food items were collected to benefit The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May’s Food Closet. The hours of operation for The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May’s Food Closet are 9:00AM – 10:30 AM during the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. The only exception occurs during the Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday. The Food Closet is opened on Monday instead of Friday. Donations are always welcome. Please call 884-3949 to set up appointment.
In other West Cape May news, the TMS club (short for Theatre, Math and Science) is an extracurricular club. Mrs. Paige Calabro formed TMS in response to the students’ expressed interest in all three areas. The West Cape May B.O.E. approved the club in September. The first venture for the TMS club, that includes the fourth through sixth graders, was theatre. The children met weekly to practice and make simple costumes.
On December 10, the students performed the play, Twelve Angry Pigs, by Wade Bradford. The play was well attended and enjoyed by all. Following the play was the PTA’s “Family Fun Night”.
