Cape My County Tech
Cape May Tech students in the Culinary Arts technology class experienced a real world lesson on ice carving with professional ice sculptor Doug Gomersall of Living Ice. From sketching the design on paper to discussing the volatility of the material, the students participated in the process resulting in creating impressive ice sculptures. The masterpieces included a butler, jumping tuna, rising sun, and valentine’s hearts.
Chef Dave Masterson, Culinary Arts Technology teacher, explained the ice carvings are stored in deep-freeze until they will be displayed at the Prom Fashion Show on February 24. Masterson said, “The sun carving will be displayed on the stage with a dry ice cloud floating off the stage. The butler will be holding a tray of hors d’ oeuvres. The tuna carving will be a center piece for our food & beverage sales table and the hearts carving will be displayed outside at the main entrance.”
Gomersall, a Culinary Institute of America graduate and Erma resident, is a Culinary Arts advisory council member and has been involved as a guest chef for the past 18 years. This is the 14th year that he has been carving ice with the culinary students.
Cape Trinity Catholic
Cape Trinity Catholic’s 5th grade recently celebrated graduation from the D.A.R.E. program. Joe Catanoso, the school’s resource officer in person in charge of school security for the North Wildwood school district, ran the program.
The program teaches and details the dangers of tobacco, alcohol and drug use. The 11-week class also teaches about the process of addiction and avoidance and encourages the students to make healthy choices.

In other Middle News –
The Interact Club of Middle Township High School has recently collaborated with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in efforts to complete a successful, local coat drive. Schools in the district were given several large bins to fill up with coats. In result, by February 14th, the Interact Club and the Big Brothers Big Sisters program wanted to send these coats to the less fortunate and give them a gift for Valentine’s Day, letting them know, we care. At Middle Township High School, the coat drive was more than victorious and the Interact Club was extremely pleased with the outcome, seeing that their duty to help the community was a success.
